Hemsby Project
SLP Energy has re-submitted a planning application to Great Yarmouth Borough Council for the construction and operation of a wind farm near Hemsby, Norfolk.
The proposal consists of up to four wind turbines and associated infrastructure, located on agricultural land around the disused meteorological station, between the villages of Hemsby and Ormesby St Margaret in Norfolk. Each turbine is proposed to have a maximum generating capacity of 2.5 Mega Watts, with a hub height of up to 60 metres and a rotor diameter of up to 90 metres, giving a maximum height to the blade tip of 105 metres.
A planning application was previously submitted for this scheme in 2007. During the statutory consultation period, Natural England raised some concerns regarding the ecological impact and Defence Estates raised an objection. This objection was due to potential interference by the turbines on the air defence radar at Trimmingham. To enable further review of these issues the original application was withdrawn.
Additional study work has been completed following further consultation with Natural England and after further consultation Defence Estates have withdrawn their objection.
